Experience / Credentials

LuNa Consultants features the services of Luis J. Navarro (résumé), Founder and Engineering Solutions Architect. With over 43 years of experience in the engineering field, Luis has solved complex problems in design, development, manufacturing and field returns. Luis is a Test and Measurement expert who is able to think out of the box to identify and solve issues that often have technical and non-technical (organizational, management, etc.) components.

Luis' approach focuses on problem solving through custom test and measurement tools. He uses existing or modified tools to measure the physical characteristics of a product or process, then develops statistical models to explain the behavior and compare it with the measured data. Using this data, he can quickly identify the root causes of any deviations from the expected behavior and generate cost-effective solutions.

Luis' extensive background includes a BSEE and an MSEE. Over time he has developed extensive knowledge of mathematics, statistics and physics, as well as good knowledge of chemistry, material properties and software development. Luis also has extensive experience with Design of Experiments and other similar methodologies.

During Luis' career, he has served as a Design Engineer, Project Leader, Group Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Engineering Manager and as a Principal Engineer focusing improving products and processes. Luis has worked for companies ranging from Fortune 500 technology leaders to cutting-edge start-ups. He has managed large groups of engineers and led the introduction of highly successful and profitable products. He has also mentored many peers in the usage of statistical tools and problem-solving techniques.

Luis holds 6 patents in Digital Oscillography and recently published a paper on a novel method to measure characteristic impedance. He was inducted to Electronic Design magazine's Engineering Hall of Fame in 2003 (interview) for his key role developing the most popular digital oscilloscope.

Recently published papers:

  • Measurement of Characteristic Impedance of High Frequency Cables presented at ARFTG 2008.
  • Application of Launch Point Extrapolation Technique to Measure Characteristic Impedance of High Frequency Cables with TDR presented at DesignCon 2009.
